Brenda Pettitt - Artist
Brenda has always lived and worked on or near the Mornington Peninsula in south-eastern Victoria in Australia. After a long career in nursing, Brenda changed direction in her career and studied art at her local TAFE, Chisholm Institute, Frankston, to achieve a Diploma of Arts Illustration and a Diploma of Arts Visual Arts, majoring in painting and sculpture. Brenda has recently achieved a Certificate in Glass and Glazing - Architectural Design from Holmesglen TAFE. She also has a teaching certificate and continues to study in her areas of interest including advanced techniques in mosaics and glass fusing.
Brenda's artistic pursuits include painting in all mediums and working in glass in the forms of glass fusing, glass mosaics and glass beadmaking.
She works from her home-based studio in Langwarrin, but also teaches art to adults at local community centres, and is involved in leading community public art projects and professional development.
Whilst drawing inspiration from her natural environment and concentrating on glass mosaics and fused glass jewellery, Brenda relaxes by turning her hand to painting flora, landscapes and seascapes in pastel. She also enjoys photography, particularly the local flora and fauna, and the landscapes and seascapes of the Mornington Peninsula. She also loves to photograph fascinating cloud formations!
Brenda has completed several mosaic commissions for Casey Hospital in Berwick and has won awards for exhibition pieces. She has had work published in several Australian Art magazines and has contributed mosaic images to an International Contemporary Mosaic DVD produced by Mosaic Art Now.
Brenda is an active member of several organizations including Frankston Tourism, AGDA (Architectural Glass Design Australia), MAANZ (Mosaic Association of Australia and New Zealand), PAS (Peninsula Arts Society),
McClelland Guild of Artists, and SECAN
(South Eastern Contemporary Artists Network) amongst others.
